Hailing from Jamaica, New York, Alexandria Calizaire affectionately known as “Lexy” is a creative, free-spirited mother of two who is committed to supporting, encouraging, and fortifying women. As creator and Chief Executive Officer of MammasMonkeys.com and co-founder of Mommy Mixer NYC, Lexy has applied her experience in brand marketing and public relations events coordination to establish her mommy marque.
Lexy obtained her Bachelor of Science in Public Relations and Business from St. John’s University. As a senior, she was given an assignment to create a website. Lexy sought topics that had personal relevance and provided enough substance to fill a website. She was the mother of six-month old Keitan, who loved everything jungle themed and was affectionately called “Monkey” by his doting mamma. The topic of motherhood, with offerings of battle-tested survival tips was the natural choice for her website topic. Her ins-and-outs as a full-time student, full-time employee, and mother provided ample content. The website name was a cinch. Since the website idea was derived from her experience with her little monkey, she chose “MammasMonkeys.com”. After a successful presentation and well-deserved “A” for the assignment, Lexy considered converting the faux website into a real one. Unfortunately, because she lacked the confidence and knew little about web building, Lexy shelved the website idea. Six years later, she took it off the shelf.
In June 2016, after being diagnosed with postpartum depression following the birth of her second child, Cali, Lexy officially launched MammasMonkeys.com. For Lexy, writing played a huge role in her therapeutic methods. With the rough outline of her original MammasMonkeys.com concept, the challenge of juggling two kids as a stay at home mom, and a new fiancé, Lexy was ready to document and share her bumpy journey with her fellow mommy tribe. MammasMonkeys.com is an open forum that discusses quick healthy and not-so-healthy recipes (lol), self-care, lifestyle, reviews, activities, self-empowerment, relationships, random rants, and more. Sharing her story publicly opened lines of communication with women who became part of her support network. What’s more, the website began to present opportunities for collaborating with other like-minded female entrepreneurs. In December of 2016 Lexy partnered with Tonita Clifton, founder of the Tonitabonita brand, to create Mommy Mixer NYC. The two had in common that they were stay-at-home-mothers of two whose children were close in age. Lexy and Tonita brainstormed to create events for mothers who were similarly situated and provided them with emotional outlets and safe judgement-free spaces. The act of sharing the highs and lows of motherhood created the demand for a monthly event of Mommy Mixer NYC. Mommy Mixer NYC is a one-of-a- kind ongoing event that caters to moms, mommies to be, and the village of supporters who help make being a super mom possible.
In May of 2017 Lexy was selected to reveal The Mother’s Day special edition SASSBOXX — a monthly subscription service that introduces subscribers to custom-made products from black female entrepreneurs. Lexy continues to build and expand her brand while nurturing relationships with other supernova female entrepreneurs.
